FM: We should not let Belarus' opponents disunite us

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Opponents of the current government in Belarus believe that they have found its Achilles heel and are trying to disunite the society, which cannot be allowed to happen, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei noted that sanctions were imposed against Belarus to put it under economic pressure. Such measures are being advocated by the opponents of the Belarusian authorities. “Businesses are offered to pay their way out of the sanctions by transferring a certain amount of bitcoins to certain accounts. Revolution is a mere business. How much should you hate your people to call for wrecking your country, destroying the state, while living abroad on handouts of the mighty,” the foreign minister asked.

“It is a pity to realize who are the people being foisted on us to rule a ‘new democratic' Belarus,” he went on saying.

On this occasion, the minister gave his take on this situation: “The methods of implanting a ‘new' Belarus remind me of the methods of implanting New Order: intimidation of government officials, law enforcement, military personnel, and their family members. Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and my family have experienced it, too.”

“I strongly believe that we should by no means cede the state to a fascist democracy,” Vladimir Makei stressed.

He is convinced that a multi-vector policy, as well as other development plans in Belarus can only be implemented through national unity. “Opponents of Belarus believe that they have found its Achilles heel and are trying to disintegrate us now. This cannot be allowed,” he emphasized.

The minister is confident that only a strong government is able to mobilize the internal energy of the society in order to keep going amidst a challenging external environment. “There will be no Belarus unless such a power is in place,” he noted.

In addition, Vladimir Makei spoke about the well-known slogan and those who use it to further their own agenda: “Some people are worried whether Belarus will go on. Belarus ‘will live long', because, unlike a bunch of fake patriots who look at Belarus through the prism of sanctions from abroad, the overwhelming majority of Belarusians really love their homeland. And this is a guarantee that it will stand its ground. ‘I love Belarus' should become the slogan of those who love the country. I love Belarus!”
